Smalley Road Runners started in 2007 when the founder wanted to establish a running club that was inclusive of all abilities local to his home in Smalley. It started with only three or four people who met in a supermarket car park in the town of Heanor. Over the next eight years it grew from 20-30 likeminded runners to now reaching over 200+ members we see today.

We are known as the ‘Orange Army’ due to the amount of people seen on our popular Club nights in our team colour – orange. The colour was chosen after the club attended its first race at Wollaton Park in Nottinghamshire where the founder wore an orange racing top and noticed that in a crowd it was striking.

During 2020 the Club became a Charity to encourage those in Smalley and the surrounding area to participate in running as part of a healthy lifestyle. Its mission is to create a supportive and inclusive network where all members are valued and feel motivated to improve and maintain their wellbeing and mental health.
